Simply Luxe in Print: Our San Diego Union-Tribune Accessories Feature

There is something about holding a real newspaper. This weekend, Simply Luxe Organizing landed in the Saturday, October 10, 2026 print edition of The San Diego Union-Tribune, in Caron Golden’s story Arranging accessories: Small-item storage solutions, big peace of mind. Ryen Toft found it in print that morning, and seeing our work across the page never gets old.

The story begins on the front of Section E and continues inside with a full page of photos, including Ryen at work in a client’s closet, giving a ball cap collection and a wall of shoes a proper home. It is our second time in the U-T. Caron first featured our team back in 2022, so being invited back four years later feels especially sweet.

What the Story Covers

Caron’s piece is all about the little things: socks, belts, scarves, jewelry, sunglasses, caps and the charging cords that follow us into the bedroom. Alongside Ryen Toft, she spoke with California Closets design consultant Katie Swinburne, Rafael Barrera of The Container Store in San Diego, and Zoe Loffreda of Ikea. California Closets and The Container Store are two of the partners we work with most often, so sharing the page with them felt especially fitting. As Ryen put it in the story, most closets simply are not designed with a natural home for accessories, and that is usually where the clutter starts.

Our Favorite Accessory Storage Takeaways

A few ideas from the article that we use in client homes every week:

  • Edit before you shop. Take everything out so you can see what you own, then decide what you wear, what you love and what no longer fits your life. Products come last, not first.
  • Organize for your real routine. Design around your habits, not an idealized Pinterest photo. The things you reach for every day earn the easiest, most accessible spots.
  • Keep it visible. As Katie Swinburne told Caron, “you wear what you see.” Clear drop-front shoe boxes, divided trays and pull-out tie and belt racks keep everything in view.
  • Look up. Vertical space is often underused. If your shelves adjust, moving them closer together can create another row or two for shoes, and stackable shoe shelves make the most of the height you already have.
  • Not every pair needs prime real estate. Everyday shoes stay within easy reach, while special occasion or seasonal pairs can live higher up. Sometimes editing the collection is the best organizing tool of all.
  • Give like items their own drawer. A dedicated drawer with trays for scarves, rolled belts or ties keeps small pieces corralled, and adjustable grids bring order to a nightstand full of cables and batteries.
  • Measure before you buy. Bring drawer and shelf measurements, plus photos of what you want to corral, when you shop for organizers. You will get far better advice.
  • Label the occasional pieces. Lidded baskets with labels keep ski gloves, clutches or extra hats tidy on a closet shelf until you need them.

My favorite organizing product is always the one a client will actually continue using six months from now.

That idea is at the heart of every Simply Luxe project. A system should work with the way you naturally live, so it stays beautiful long after our team packs up the label maker.
