Nobody plans for a flood. One day your kitchen is just your kitchen, and the next you are standing in a few inches of water wondering where on earth the cereal is supposed to live for the next three months. That is exactly where this sweet Mission Viejo family found themselves this spring, and we were so honored they called us to help carry them through it.
This one is close to our hearts because we got to see the whole journey: the before, the very messy middle, and the jaw-dropping after. Here is how our Orange County team helped turn a stressful flood repair into a full remodel and a home that feels calm, organized, and completely theirs.
The Before: Packing Up a Home Mid-Crisis
When water damage forces a remodel, everything has to come out, and fast. In April 2026, our team came in to pack the kitchen, pantry, bathrooms, and living spaces so the contractors could get to work. We sorted as we went, so the family was not paying to store things they no longer loved. Every box was labeled by room and category, which made our future selves very, very happy.

Our team tip: if you are packing for a remodel, pack a clearly labeled “open first” bin for each room. Chargers, a few plates, the coffee setup, and the kids’ favorite things. It makes those in-between weeks so much easier.
The Messy Middle: Boxes, Dust, and a Brand New Kitchen
Remodels are exciting, but they are also a lot. By June, the new kitchen was in, the cabinets were gorgeous, and the house was full of boxes. That is the moment where a lot of families get stuck, because unpacking into a brand new space feels like a big decision. Where do the spices go? What lives in that beautiful arched cabinet? We love this part.

The After: Unpacked, Organized, and Picture Ready
Over a few days in June, our team unpacked the whole home and set up every space around how this family actually lives. We created zones in the kitchen, styled the pantry cabinets with baskets and clear canisters, organized the bar, laundry room, and bathrooms, and broke down every last box. It is the same approach we bring to every move organizing project: when we leave, the house feels finished.
And then the professional photographer came. We cannot stop looking at these.

What We Learned From This Mission Viejo Remodel
Every flood and remodel is different, but a few things always help:
- Edit before you pack. Less stuff means fewer boxes, lower storage costs, and an easier unpack.
- Label by room and category. “Kitchen: baking” beats “kitchen stuff” every single time.
- Plan the new space before unpacking. New cabinets deserve a plan, not whatever fits first.
- Bring in help for the unpack. It is the part that drags on for months when you go it alone.
